What is your role at the company, and what are your key responsibilities?

Windows Systems Administrator – Service Team responsibilities, On-Site Tech

How long have you worked in your current position, and what led you to this role?

I am approaching my 4th year at KTI, and it all started with an interview with Stephen P.

Can you describe a typical day at your job?

About half the week, I spend half the day at one of our clients. Otherwise, I am at a desk (home or office) and remoting into computers/servers/routers trying to solve problems.

What do you enjoy most about working at Kerkhoff Technologies?

I enjoy meeting with our clients, solving their problems and hanging around with great people while I do so.

How do you collaborate with other team members to achieve your goals?

Collaborations start with the morning huddle, then quick Teams calls or Teams messages in the channels.

What projects or accomplishments are you most proud of in your career?

I have run a team of about 25 people as the Director of Technology at Palliser Furniture (a $500M/yr company). I support over 600 systems and about 50 companies in my own business. And collaboratively working with the team here at Kerkhoff Technologies!

What is your number 1 tech tip (that you use) to our audience?

Don’t look for the ‘Silver bullet” solution. We tend to approach a problem as if there was one solution that would fix it. I have seen problems that had 3 different real causes.

What are some recent developments or innovations in your field that you find exciting?

AI is both exciting and worrying. I use it as a starting point for a researched destination.

What is your favorite way to unwind after a long day at work?

Always like heading out to Bellingham to catch a supper and/or sunset

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of work that you are passionate about?

I have pursued photography and followed politics closely all my life, but I try not to be a nuisance about it.

Are there any books, movies, or TV shows you've been enjoying lately?

Some fiction: just finished a book about dragon battles called The Fourth Wing

We saw Boys in the Boat at the Pickford Theatre in Bellingham a week ago.

Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about them!

There are no pets currently, though a cat in our complex knows us and, when we drive up, is waiting for a small treat.

What is your favorite quote or piece of advice that you live by?

Ferris Bueller: Life moves fast. You could miss it if you don't stop and look around occasionally.

What's your favorite type of cuisine or restaurant, and what dish can you never resist ordering?

If I want to spend money, I always have a steak. But I would say a good hamburger is hard to beat.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

So far, my favorite place has been Rome, and I would not hesitate to spend a few months there again. The culture, architecture, and food are fantastic.

Can you share a fun or interesting fact about yourself that most company employees don't know?

I once spent an hour talking with a member of the rock group The Police – Andy Summers. I only realized the next day, standing outside a record store and seeing life-sized images of the band because they were in town for a concert.

What's your go-to music playlist or artist for getting pumped up before a busy day?

There are lots of different artists, but some crazy ones like the Ting Tings – Not My Name, Celtic groups like Runrig, and the Winnipeg band – The Weakerthans (who have 3 different songs about a cat named Virtute).

Are there any charitable causes or organizations that you're passionate about and support?

We have always supported MCC and Columbia Bible College.

Through his unwavering dedication, technical expertise, and commitment to excellence, Brent navigates the ever-evolving landscape of Windows systems with grace and proficiency.
